Course Objective: This course teaches the fundamentals of sewing and apparel construction techniques and its objective is to prepare the student with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to produce garments that will look both professional and original.
After successfully completing all course activities, the student will be able to:
- Identify the proper sewing and apparel construction terminologies, tools, and equipment.
- Apply basic techniques of measuring, cutting, handling, and pressing fabric.
- Utilize proper sewing techniques on a variety of fabrications, with a focus on handling and finishing.
- Learn basic cutting, sewing, and finishing by hand and by machine.
- Recognize and use sewing terms and style names
- Take body measurements that are needed for the proper fit of garments
- Use a sewing pattern (how to read and prepare for sewing)
- Learn to identify the parts of the sewing machine and how to properly use the sewing machine.
